In Togo, the electoral census in zone 1 has been extended until Monday, May 8, 2023. It was originally scheduled to end this Saturday.
This decision of the Electoral Commission is partly motivated by the high attendance and the logistical problems recorded since the start of the operation.
The shortcomings had been mentioned by the opposition parties from the first day of the registrations.
Citizens have been trying to get their voter’s ID cards in Togo for three days, in view of the next legislative and local elections.
The operation is experiencing among other issues, missing equipment, broken down machines. But above all the crowds, many find the process very slow.
No date has been announced for the holding of these parliamentary and local elections, but according to Togolese President Faure Gnassingbé, they will be held this year.
